New Zealand photo index (photos by Colleen

Some
New Zealand
travel scenes -- including Gisborne, on the East Coast of North
Island,
a Maori marae, beaches, wildflowers.
Miranda
Shorebird
Center -- world famous for viewing migrating
shorebirds.
One of the few places in the world to see the threatened Wrybill, the
only
bird on the planet with a bill curved to the side
Rakiura
(or Stewart Island) -- Island off the southern tip of New
Zealand.
Very scenic, relaxing and romantic. Great birding spot for native
forest
birds
Hunua
Falls -- a natural area in the southern part of the Auckland
district
(in north island). Great remnant of native old growth kauri trees
Wilkin
River -- In the Mt Aspiring National Park, a great tramp up river
to
glacial cirques
Rob Roy Glacier -- Very popular and very scenic day hike near
Wanaka,
New Zealand
West Matukituki River and Mt
Aspiring
Hut -- A popular tramping route with glacier views and some old
growth
forest, raging rivers spanned by swing bridges
Greenstone-Caples
Rivers -- famous as the traditional place for Maori to obtain
greenstone,
or jade. The Greenstone River was also a main route to the divide and
down
to the west coast of the south island. Because of proximity to the
divide
tramping in this area is likely to be rainy and chilly. A great place
nonetheless.
Dunedin
and
Dunedin Peninsula -- A scenic city with the country's oldest
university,
University of Otago. Great dining, shopping in small shops. The Dunedin
peninsula
has a colonies of royal albatross, yellow-eyed penguins, and beaches
where
sea mammals rest.
Some New
Zealand
War Memorials -- Think about it.
