Trailhead off Lone Mountain Road past the
Big Sky ski resort heading west.
Great hike to a cirque with a small lake
reputed to have trout. Rock climbers like the area, and
apparently the ridge can be crossed, though it looks rough.
Nice for a family backpack -- a 1200' vertical climb to the
basin and approximately 3 miles. Met my neighbors with 10 yr
old kids going up for an overnight.
Date: Sept 2, 2012, Sunday of Labor Day
weekend. Parking lot full, roadsides nearby full of cars, and
a constant stream of hikers of all ages.
