The book "Children and Pollution" (Oxford University
Press, 2009) by Prof. Colleen F. Moore, University of
Wisconsin-Madison, covers the effects of lead poisoning, mercury, PCBs,
organophosphorus and carbamate pesticides, airport and traffic noise,
and community pollution disasters
(including Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Love Canal). I summarize
what
the 'best science' says about the effects of these pollutants or events
on children's psychological development, and I also explain how risk
assessments are done, and what the scientific controversies are for
each pollutant.
After reading this book, you will know how to argue to protect children
from pollution. You will also learning how to protect your own family
and the planet.
